Spaghetti Fundraiser: Thank You All!

4/28/2015

WISC-TV 3 Story

While much is made about the many wonderful aspects of "The House", it truly is "The People" that make it so special and that was made abundantly clear once again this past weekend at our Spaghetti Fundraiser in Cross Plains.

We have so many people to thank including the event organizers, St. Francis Church and their beautiful facility and kind staff, volunteers, table sponsors, silent auction contributors, food and beverage contributors, local news crews, our transplant families who made the trip both in person and through sponsorships and the generous people who bid on a very large selection of silent auction items with the understanding that all funds benefit transplant families like the ones you see here in video and photos.  Thank you all for a great day!

Executive Director Cindy Herbst Named "First Lady of the Year"

4/28/2015

Restoring Hope Transplant House started as a dream fueled by our collective passions for helping transplant families in need.  This is truly a labor of love, done for people we have also grown to love.  To be named the "First Lady of the Year" this past weekend by Beta Sigma Phi International was a tremendous honor and a wonderful reflection on the amazing spirit created within the walls of our house by so many of our visiting transplant families.  Thank you all for this special moment!

"A First Lady is someone who is not a member of the organization, but has demonstrated the ideals of Beta Sigma Phi.  According to our International rules, "The candidate who receives this honor has reached out to others.  She has made a difference in one person’s life or several lives.  She is described as a person of integrity and kindness.   Although she may be recognized for her professional accomplishments, she has obtained the title of “First Lady” because she has gone beyond the normal scope of her job.  This award honors a woman who was not looking for fame."

Stay tuned for additional silent auction items...more fun items coming soon!

On The Road Again!

4/20/2015

It has been a very busy couple weeks out on the road sharing the stories of Restoring Hope Transplant House to several of the regions that regularly send transplant families our way during their transplant journeys.  In just a short span, we have had the great opportunity to speak in Cross Plains, Beloit, Green Bay, Rockford and Wisconsin Rapids in addition to other local opportunities.

It is amazing how many people have been touched in some capacity by transplantation and just how tight-knit the transplant community is.  It was a great honor to be welcomed with open arms at all of these stops and to not only speak on behalf of the house, but the hundreds of families who have called it home.

How special it was for Cindy to return to her hometown of Green Bay one night and also have one of our regular Green Bay transplant guests volunteer to join her to speak and share her transplant story and experiences at Restoring Hope Transplant House.  She did a tremendous job of speaking from the heart and we are so grateful that they were gracious enough with their time and kind words on this wonderful return home.

A two day event in Rockford also saw us meet up with two of our Northern Illinois transplant families (heart and stem cell transplant) and how special it is to hear a presentation about Restoring Hope Transplant House in the words of our own guests, the people who have lived the journey themselves and who benefited the most from having the gift of a home away from home.  What a wonderful gathering in the very heart of a region that sends so many families our way on such a regular basis.

We also just returned yesterday from a fun transplant scavenger hunt fundraiser in Wisconsin Rapids.  It was a tremendous collection of recipients, families and supporters whose smiles and enthusiasm on this day were a wonderful reminder that no matter where the destination, it is the journey that is the greatest reward.  We can’t thank you all enough for making these past two weeks so enjoyable!

Video: RHTH Transplant Family Final Link In Historic Kidney Chain

4/16/2015

ABC Breaking US News | US News Videos
An amazing Nightline video documenting the largest multi-hospital kidney transplant chain in US history.  The final link in the transplant chain was performed here at UW Hospital in Madison and for all of us at Restoring Hope Transplant House this one feels so very personal as that final link just so happens to be our friend Mitzi.  Mitzi and her husband Bill are from Wausau and they have called Restoring Hope Transplant House their home away from home while in the Madison area in search of their gift of life.  Congratulations to Bill and Mitzi and everyone involved in this historic transplant event!

RHTH Guest Featured on Nightline TONIGHT!

We are all looking forward to watching tonight's Nightline feature story at 11:35pm on the miracles of a recent kidney transplant chain - which included Restoring Hope Transplant House Guest Mitzi (Wausau) as the final link in the chain.  We are all so happy for Bill and Mitzi who were just here overnight for a check-up today.  They have made a lot of sacrifices in helping with this story, but they understand the profound impact it can have on raising awareness for others to consider becoming organ donors themselves.  What an amazing accomplishment by everyone involved...we look forward to watching!

Easter Egg Hunt: Thank You All!

4/7/2015

It was a great honor to be selected as the charity of choice by the Downtown Middleton Business Association for this past weekend’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Fireman’s Park.  We are extremely grateful to all of the area businesses, city officials and good neighbors who make this great event and so many others like it possible.

To those who contributed household items, food and cleaning supplies to benefit the house and our guests– thank you!  These are all items we use on a daily basis in an effort to provide the best home away from home as possible for our visiting transplant families.

We have now hosted transplant families from at least 21 different states and as far away as Calgary, Canada.  In a time of tremendous physical, emotional and financial challenges, these families from all parts of Wisconsin and beyond have come to call Middleton their home away from home while in search of a second chance at life through the miracle of transplantation.  Thank you all for being such Good Neighbors!
