Together, we have shared in the greatest miracles imaginable of people who would not be here today without the life-changing nature of their transplant. MELD scores of 40 with little time to live, a heart functioning at just 6%, people gasping for breath on supplemental oxygen, beating the long odds of cancer, young people who have debilitating pain so bad that they can barely leave their bed because life has become such a struggle, the irreversible effects of Type 1 diabetes and the urgency to get a pancreas transplant before it takes vision and limbs, a young lady with nausea so bad that she estimated that she would vomit 100 times a day, how dialysis steals so much of a person’s energy and life while doing whatever it takes to stay alive to a family that stayed here parts of 10 months this year while going through their own health related struggles.
These are all real life stories of people who stayed here this year. People who arrived as guests and left as family. To get them to a better place with real hope for a higher quality of life through transplantation is the greatest reward for what we do. In so many cases, there is a strong bond that lasts forever when you share these journeys with so many people. It is what makes this house so special.
We are so incredibly grateful for everyone that has had a hand in making this such a great year for Restoring Hope Transplant House. May you all be blessed with a healthy and happy New Year!
